August 28, 2017 Happy Solemnity of our father, Saint Augustine! It is customary every year on the east coast of the United States that the two communities of New Jersey's Provincial Residence and New York's Tagaste Monastery, gather to celebrate the Order's holy founder.
Tagaste Monastery's Fathers John Gruben, OAR, prior, Fidel Hernández, OAR and John Oldfield, OAR, will be joined by Father Provincial of Saint Augustine Province, Michael Rafferty, OAR, Father Fredric Abiera, OAR and Father Charles Huse, OAR, for a solemn Mass of thanksgiving beginning at 7 pm. Every year, the Friars are joined by dozens of Third Order Recollects as well as faithful members of Tagaste's Hispanic community and Suffern, New York's Sacred Heart Church. Following the Mass, the religious and lay people gather downstairs in the monastery's Guild Hall for continued dialogue and fraternity. Generous members of the Third Order and other friends provide delicious snacks and beverages. It is always a festive occasion to celebrate our Great Father, Saint Augustine among fellow religious and dear friends!! Happy Feast Day to the entire Order!! Fr. Michael Rafferty, OAR Prior Provincial Saint Augustine Province
