Celebrating the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of Mary, and special protector of the Order of Augustinian Recollects
The friars of Tagaste Monastery, the council members of the Secular Augustinian Recollects of West Orange and some friends of Saint Cloud Monastery joined the community of the Provincial Residence to celebrate the Solemnity of Saint Joseph on March 19th. The monthly regional day of recollection for the friars was also held that day with the discussion of the ordinances of the 22nd Provincial Chapter. Following the discussion, all gathered in the Chapel for Evening Prayer and the singing of the Salve and the Ioseph. Following the Liturgy, all were treated to a reception in the community dining room. The entire celebration was indeed a very nice tribute to Saint Joseph, husband of Mary and special protector of the Order of Augustinian Recollects.
Divine Mercy Sunday at the Provincial Residence
On April 27th, the Narduzzi and Greydanus families joined Fr. Joseph J. Gallardo, OAR, prior provincial, and Fr. Fredric Abiera, OAR, to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday at the Provincial Residence in West Orange, New Jersey. The Greydanus family provided the image of the Divine Mercy which was placed in the community chapel for the celebration.
The afternoon began with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the praying of the holy rosary at 2:00 PM while Fr. Joseph and Fr. Fredric heard confessions. Then, the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy was prayed followed by Benediction, presided over by Fr. Fredric. At 3:00 PM, Fr. Joseph celebrated the Mass with the blessing of the image of the Divine Mercy after communion. Following the liturgy, all were treated to a reception in the community dining room. This afternoon event was indeed a great grace for the community of the Provincial Residence.
West Orange Secular Augustinian Recollects admit two novices
On May 18th, at its monthly gathering, the Secular Augustinian Recollects, Saint Cloud Chapter, admitted two novices. Mr. Joseph Krakoviak, president of the Saint Cloud Chapter, welcomed Timothy Santo and Wilma Tabetha to the trial period by presenting them with the Rule of Saint Augustine, the Rule of Life and Statutes of the Fraternity, and the SAR lapel pin. Within the afternoon there was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction, and the Fraternity celebrated the Feast of Saint Rita by praying the Litany of St. Rita and the blessing and distribution of roses. The election of the president and council members was also held that day. The current president and council members were reelected to their same position for the next three years: Joseph Krakoviak as president of Saint Cloud Chapter, Carol Ann Ford as councilor for spirituality, Elaine Jacobs as councilor for membership, and Margaret Christiano as councilor for hospitality. Father Charles Huse, OAR, the former spiritual director of the chapter, also came to attend this month’s gathering.
Annual Retreat in the East Coast
The annual retreat for the Augustinian recollect Religious in the Eastern region of the United States was held at Don Bosco Retreat Center in Stony Point, New York, from June 2nd- 6th. Father Samson Silloriquez, OAR, a general councilor of the Order and Postulator General for the Causes of Saints from Rome, Italy, was the retreat master. Joining Father Joseph J. Gallardo, OAR, Prior Provincial, and Father Fredric Abiera, OAR, were the community of Tagaste Monastery (Suffern, New York); Father Gerrard Cosgayon, OAR, and Deacon Ramiro Muñoz, OAR, from Mexico City; Father José Antonio Arias, OAR, and Father Galo Espinoza, OAR, from California; and three religious of Saint Nicholas Province, who are ministering in Union City, New Jersey. The annual retreat offered the religious the time to reflect, share, and enjoy each other’s company.
West Orange Secular Augustinian Recollects Annual End-of-Season Luncheon
Every year, the Saint Cloud Chapter of the Secular Augustinian Recollects (SAR) ends its season with a luncheon. On June 7th, the members of SAR, joined by their spiritual director, Father Fredric Abiera, OAR, and three former spiritual directors, Fathers Charles Huse, OAR, John Oldfield, OAR, and John Gruben, OAR, enjoyed a delicious luncheon, Italian style, at Due Amici Restaurant in downtown West Orange. After the blessing of the meal, before the food was served, Father Fredric led the induction of the newly reelected president and council members of the Saint Cloud Chapter (who were elected last May 18th), together with the newly appointed secretary (Ella Slivka), treasurer (Rose Cuccinello), and director of formation (Joseph Gruszczynski). It was an afternoon of good food, laughter and fraternal spirit.
