The Augustinian Recollect Province of Saint Augustine (USA) is at present using diverse methods in the field of vocation recruitment. In addition to naming a national vocation director, as well as six local vocation directors, the province has employed the use of the printed word. While the vocation directors work in their parish settings, forming and directing youth groups, visiting schools, and attending youth conferences, Fathers Charles Huse, O.A.R., provincial secretary, Gerry Cosgayon, O.A.R., parochial vicar at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Mexico City, and Fredric Abiera, O.A.R., prefect for the religious in initial formation for the province, have been kept busy editing, formatting, and submitting vocation material for a number of Catholic periodicals and weeklies. Catholic New York (Archdiocese of New York) and The Catholic Advocate (Archdiocese of Newark) have already published these materials. Similar material has been submitted to The Tidings (Archdiocese of Los Angeles) and to The National Catholic Register, Our Sunday Visitor, and Vida Nueva. Lent-Easter 2012 is the target time for publication in these latter news sources.
The province has initiated year-round weekend vocation retreats for young men interested in the religious life. These retreats are scheduled to take place at Saint Augustine Priory, Oxnard, California, and are under the direction of Father Ramon Gaitan, O.A.R. The vocation retreats scheduled for the remainder of the year 2012 will be given on the following weekends:
